Semester 1 2019 Conferral of Award

Have you submitted your thesis or are likely to submit shortly? You may be eligible for the next conferral on 31 July and therefore should take note of the dates below.  More information and important deadlines for Semester 1 2019 conferral are on the Graduations website.

In addition to the important dates below you can download the Checklist, please follow the Graduating Student's Checklist to ensure that you meet the important deadlines for Semester 1 2019 conferral and to receive your testamur.

12pm, Wednesday
22 May 2019		 Applications for Semester 1 2019 conferral of award open – Check you have an automatic application to graduate in  Access Adelaide.
11:59pm, Sunday
7 July 2019		  Application deadline - This is the last day for applications for an award to be conferred on 31 July 2019.  No late applications are accepted.
5:00pm, Thursday
18 July 2019		 Thesis & AHEGS abstract deadline (Masters by Research and PhD students only) - deadline to submit the final digital copy of thesis to the Graduate Centre.

APR Internship Opportunities

APR Internships provide an invaluable opportunity for research students to utilise their technical skills and knowledge to help industry address challenges they face. APR.Intern has announced the following new internship opportunities:

CS Energy is offering a 4 month internship (location flexible: at the candidate’s current location, or in Fortitude Valley, QLD)

Project Title: Developing Models to Capture Tail Events in Energy Markets

This project will see the student located within the Trading Room, developing models that capture tail risks and incorporating extreme market conditions, unplanned outages and the dependence structure between relevant factors. Premium Fresh Tasmania is offering a 6 month internship in Forth, Davenport, TAS (opportunity to complete the internship remotely with some visits).

Project Title: Conduct Market Research on Existing Fresh Allium Products and Recommend Products to Facilitate the Growth of the Category for Coles Supermarkets

Silentium Defence is offering a 3 month internship in Parafield, SA

Project Title: High Performance Computing System Design

Silentium Defence is a new start-up in Adelaide that is commercialising and developing passive radar technology for a number of Defence and civilian applications. Australian Bureau of Statistics is offering a 4 month internship (ABS Office, Canberra or Adelaide preferred)

Project Title: A Pruned Hotdeck Imputation Approach to Estimation from Linked Survey and Administrative Data

This project would build on methods developed in the ABS as published in 1352.0.55.092 – Research Paper: Imputation and Estimation for a Thematic Form Census (Methodology Advisory Committee), November 2007. Scholarship Opportunities

2020 NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships – closing soon!

The NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships scheme funds successful applicants to attain a research based postgraduate degree (Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Research Masters Degree). It aims to support these outstanding health and medical graduates early in their career so they can be trained to conduct research that is internationally competitive and develop a capacity for original independent research within Australia. Basic eligibility criteria and application timelines are available on the scholarships website.  Internal closing date: 28 May 2019

SAGIT Peter Waite PhD Scholarship

Applications are invited for the following scholarship leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine. The scholarship is supported by SAGIT (South Australian Grains Industry Trust) and was established in 1991 to administer the voluntary research levy that has been collected from South Australian grain growers for many years. Applicants are encouraged to contact the supervisors listed on the scholarships website for the individual projects before submitting their applications. One scholarship will be awarded for research on each of the projects listed the website. Fulbright Scholarships - Take your research to the United States.

The Fulbright have doubled the number of scholarships on offer this year with approximately 100 available nationwide. There is particular interest in projects that have the potential to have a tangible impact on the lives of Australians, whether that be through medical research, business, or the arts. Open to Australian postgraduate students, all awards include either full or partial researcher fee allowances, generous living stipend, return flights to the U.S. and more. Three Minute Thesis – Registrations Now Open

Can you sell your thesis in just 3 minutes? Registrations are now open for the Three Minute Thesis competition! The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a great way to profile your research and develop your communication skills. It's a competition that challenges Higher Degree by Research students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. Visualise Your Thesis Competition

Advance notice! Visualise your thesis and you could win $1000!
Present your thesis in a 60-second video or audio-visual display and you could win $1000! The Visualise Your Thesis competition is open to all currently-enrolled higher degree by research students and lets you showcase your research along with your skills in communication and visual storytelling. And if you need to brush up on your visual storytelling, the University’s learning designers will be offering training to get you started. Submissions officially open on 1 July, but you can register your interest and find out more on the University Library's Visualise Your Thesis webpage. Need inspiration? GRADE Workshop

Interested in learning more about the grade approach for developing systematic reviews or clinical guidelines? The JBI Adelaide GRADE Centre offers the 1 Day GRADE Workshop designed for systematic reviewers, guideline developers and others wanting to learn more about GRADE methodology, particularly the creation of Summary of Findings tables and Evidence Profiles. ORCiD Survey for Researchers

The University is joining with the University of St Andrews, Scotland, to run a short 5-10 minute survey on ORCiD experiences of researchers. ORCiDs are permanent identifiers that are owned and controlled by researchers. The survey covers researchers and research students with and without an ORCiD.
