The 2023 Julia Gillard Public Lecture will be held on Tuesday 29 August 2023 in Bonython Hall.

The former Prime Minister and Commissioner of the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care will be joined by journalist Jess Adamson to discuss the Royal Commission and the Early Childhood Education and Care sector.

In 2013 former Prime Minister Julia Gillard was appointed a Visiting Honorary Professorship at her alma mater, the University of Adelaide.

Julia Gillard studied Law and Arts at the University of Adelaide from 1979 to 1981. She was introduced to politics as President of Adelaide University Union, and served as a student representative on the Adelaide University Council. She later moved to Melbourne to continue her involvement in student politics at a national level and complete her Law/Arts degree at the University of Melbourne.

First elected to the House of Representatives at the 1998 federal election, she became Deputy Prime Minister in 2007 also serving as Minister for Education, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations and Minister for Social Inclusion. She was Prime Minister from 2010 to 2013.

As a part of her Visiting Honorary Professorship, Julia Gillard delivers an annual public lecture at the University.
