LED lighting upgrades
The University is committed to carbon reduction and will install more than 10,000 energy efficient light globes over the next four years.
LEDs consume up to 90% less electricity than incandescent bulbs, helping to dramatically decrease power costs. Further savings can be realised through reduced maintenance costs due to the long LED lifespan.
- Approximately 1,700 lights will be replaced over a three month period.
- Four buildings on the North Terrace campus will be impacted;
- Kenneth Wills
- Engineering South
- Once installed, the LEDs are estimated to save 371,280kWh each year, which is enough to power 68 Adelaide homes.
- Combined, the projects will reduce carbon emissions by 197 tonnes per year, which is equivalent to taking 52 passenger vehicles off the road per year.
