LED lighting upgrades

The University is committed to carbon reduction and will install more than 10,000 energy efficient light globes over the next four years.

LEDs consume up to 90% less electricity than incandescent bulbs, helping to dramatically decrease power costs. Further savings can be realised through reduced maintenance costs due to the long LED lifespan.

This is the first phase of energy efficient lighting projects under the new Campus Sustainability Plan. Read more about the University's commitment to carbon reduction on the Ecoversity website.

Project overview

  • Approximately 1,700 lights will be replaced over a three month period.
  • Four buildings on the North Terrace campus will be impacted;
    • Kenneth Wills
    • Hughes
    • Oliphant
    • Engineering South
  • Once installed, the LEDs are estimated to save 371,280kWh each year, which is enough to power 68 Adelaide homes.
  • Combined, the projects will reduce carbon emissions by 197 tonnes per year, which is equivalent to taking 52 passenger vehicles off the road per year.

Project completion

  • 2018
