TRAVERSES: J.M. Coetzee in the World

A festschrift to honour the winner of the 2003 Nobel Prize for Literature, J. M. Coetzee

The festival of events included:

• An opening night keynote lecture by Professor Jonathan Lear (University of Chicago) on the role of art in conditions of injustice, followed by musical performances from Anna Goldsworthy, Elizabeth Campbell and the Zephyr Quartet, and a reading by J.M. Coetzee from The Age of Iron.
• A three-day colloquium with world-renowned scholars on various aspects of J.M. Coetzee's work in the world.
• A world-first exhibition of photographs and manuscripts from the J.M. Coetzee Papers at the Harry Ransom Center, The University of Texas at Austin, as well as artworks and adaptations responding to Coetzee's work.
• A mobile app, featuring interviews with scholars (designed by JMCCCP affiliate Lisa Harms), was on display and is currently in development.

Bringing together philosophers, artists, literary scholars and psychoanalysts, Traverses represents the sort of cross-disciplinary research that lies at the heart of what the JMCCCP does.

Traverses: J.M. Coetzee in the World Exhibition

An exhibition of rare archival material of J. M. Coetzee's work, on loan from the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin, showcasing manuscripts, notebooks, films and photographs. Held from 3-28 November 2014, Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, University of South Australia. Hosted by the Hawke Research Institute at the University of South Australia, in association with the J.M. Coetzee Centre for Creative Practice at the University of Adelaide.
