Book a Study Space
University students and staff can place a booking for meeting rooms and select computers and study booths within the Barr Smith Library. This service is in place to promote fair use of our facilities for all students, and ease the stress of trying to find an empty seat!
- Please be prompt and arrive to your booking on time.
- The minimum booking time is 30 minutes - the maximum is 2-3 hours, depending on the location.
- As always, please respect other users whilst you are in the space.
- In compliance with library policy, no hot foods or drinks without lids are allowed in these spaces.

Book a space at the Barr Smith Library
Meeting rooms are located on Levels 1 and 2 of the library and can be used for group study sessions or one-on-one consultations. They are bookable for up to 3 hours per day.
Located opposite the Recording Studio on Level 2, this room contains a DVD and VHS player and can be booked for 3 hours. Please note: a key must be borrowed from Ask Library before entering this room.
Located within the CD collection on Level 1, these booths contain an LP turntable, CD player, and tape-to-tape cassette player. They can be booked for 3 hours.
These booths are located with the Listening Booths within the CD Collection on Level 1. They are for quiet solo study and can be booked for up to 2 hours.
There are two pods of computers which are currently bookable. The first pod is located near the Map Collection on Level 1 South, and the second pod is in the wedge area on Level 1. Computers can be booked for up to 2 hours.
These computers, located on Level 1 South, contain the notation software Sibelius, and as such can only be booked by Music students. Bookings are for 2 hours.
