Christine Rothauser Wagner Collection

Christine Rothauser began donating her Wagner Collection to the Library in 2015.

This collection reflects Christine Rothauser’s lifelong love of Wagner and his works. A regular attendee at the Bayreuth Wagner Festivals and other Wagner performances in Europe, America and Australia, Christine compiled a comprehensive collection of publications about Wagner and performance of his operas.

The book collection includes reprintings of Wagner’s correspondence, diaries and other writings, as well as biographies and books about Wagner and his family and contemporaries.

Librettos of the operas in German and in English are well represented – particularly the Ring Cycle – supported by critical appreciations and appraisals.

The collection includes many rare and valuable works, featuring fine engravings and artistic prints of scenes from Wagner’s operas.

There are also works on the history of the Bayreuth Festival, as well as opera scores and videos.

Christine’s ephemeral collections of programmes, illustrations and photographs, journals issues, posters and prints and records have been listed as MSS 0194 Christine Rothauser. Wilhelm Richard Wagner collection
