Source materials, mostly on German internees in Australia during WWI compiled by Derek Van Abbe(?). Includes programmes and other materials from the Liverpool Concentration [Internment] Camp given by the Schneider family to Derek Van Abbe. Includes correspondence re the internment of Theodore Schneider.

1-2. Ms pencil notes on letter paper re Bethel with list of German surnames [names of congregation?] and addresses (1 p.) With empty envelope addressed to Miss E.L. Schneider. (Clarence Park, Adelaide)

3. Typescript (Roneo copies) correspondence Dec. 1916 to Sept. 1918 conducted by the Association of interned Australian born subjects and various other matters connected with the internment of Australian and German nationals in WWI – concerns Liverpool CC (67 p.). This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 1.

4. Ms letter to the Minister of Defence from Max Woititzki(?) 31 October 1917 (1 p.) - addressed as from ‘Concentration Camp… Australia [from Liverpool CC]. This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 1.

5. Typed (Roneoed) copy of Warrant 21/12/1917 against Theodore Schneider of Norwood headed ‘Warrant issued under War’ (1 p.). This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 1.

6. Typed letter from Theodore Schneider to Military Commandant, South Australia asking for a trial to prove his loyalty (1 p.). This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 1.

7. Typed letter in reply to Theodore Schneider, internee at Fort Largs, from T. Trumble, Acting Secretary, Department of Defence, Melbourne 16/1/1918, denying the request (1 p.). This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 1.

8. Typed permit from Intelligence Section, Australian Military Forces, Keswick Barracks, 26/1/1918 for Elsa and Wilfred Schneider to interview POW Theodore Schneider (1 p.). This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 1.

9. Newspaper cutting 31/5/1919 [from The Truth?] ‘Alleged atrocities’ in prisoner of war camps’ - about Torrens Island, SA, quoting experiences of The Truth (photocopy). This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 1.

10. Newspaper cutting from The Mail 9/8/1919 re 'Holdsworthy Plot' - about planned German uprising in Australia/Sydney. This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 1.

11. Newspaper cutting, undated: ‘Holdsworthy trouble’. About an escape attempt during the war by interned Germans in Holdsworthy (1918?). This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 1.

12. Eleven photographs in envelope, of Liverpool inmates dressed as German female theatre characters for theatre performances in camps. One photograph of marching parade at Liverpool GCC dated 1917. This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 2.

12a. An additional 17 photographs of Liverpool GCC theatricals, including one of H. Laabe in Navy uniform with cap “S.M.S. Emden.” Also 2 ‘comic’ books nos. IV and V of depicting life in the GCC drawn by C. Friedrich, ca 1918. Donated by Sally Goers Fox on behalf of the Goers family. This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 2.

13. Printed programme: ‘Programm zur Feier des 27. Jan. 1919 im Deutschen Kriegsgefangenenlager, Liverpool ( Australien)’ [= Programme for the celebration of 27 January 1919 in the German Prisoner-of-War Camp, Liverpool] (8 p.) Orchestral and choral concert - includes Catholic mass. This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 2.

l4. Printed programme: ‘Festprogramm anlässlich des Geburtstages S.M. des Kaisers von Österreich und des Apost[olischen] Königs von Ungarn Karl I. Liverpool NSW’ 17/6/1918 [= Festival programme on the occasion of the birthday of His Majesty of Austria & the Apostolic King of Hungary, Charles I] (4 p.) Orchestral concert - includes screening of slides etc. Cover by E. Czech. This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 2.

15. Back and front cover of printed programme, containing advertisements for shops and cafes in Liverpool camp(?). This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 2.

16. Printed booklet: ‘Führer durch die Ausstellung im GCC August 1917’ [= Guide to the exhibition in the GCC] (16 p.) GCC= German Concentration Camp. Catalogue of an exhibition of work done in the camp: painting, wood carving, woodwork, ship models, machine work, metal work, and cooking and other crafts. According to the Foreword this was the 3rd exhibition held in the Camp. This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 2.

17. Printed booklet: ‘Führer durch die Ausstellung Liverpool 8, 9, 10. June 1918’ (16 p.) With draft letter in English by Charles Jaeger(?) on the inside of the front cover, 23/7/1917, addressed to Lieutenant Colonel Holman. This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 2.

18. D.T.L. [= Deutches Theater Liverpool] programme for Die Hausdame by Erik Hostrup, dated 28 Sept. 1918 (4 p.). Includes advertisements, including 128th performance for another play in the camp, including Gerhard Hauptmann’s Die versunkene Glocke. This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 2.

19. Printed programme for music concert: Liverpool ‘Konzert des Schrammel-Quartetts’ 24 March 1919 (1 p.). This material has been removed and catalogued in MSS 0263 Series 2.

20. Ms ‘Old Greenock folk’ by A.Seebo, 1956, written in response to Derek Van Abbe’s questionnaire (2 p.) ie ‘Old Folk of Greenock’. Includes names and occupations, and the heading ‘Schoolteachers’.
