In 1995 Christine became a member of the board of the State Opera Ring Corporation.  In her capacity as Chair of the Ancillary Events Committee, she prepared five visual arts exhibitions for the Ring, (Art Gallery of SA, State Library of SA, Barr Smith library, Festival Theatre and the Adelaide Town Hall.) She wrote and performed a play ‘A Sunday afternoon with Richard’ at the Elder Hall and was the administrator of the International Wagner Symposium.  She curated two exhibitions for Parsifal in 2002 and four exhibitions for the second Ring in 2004.  She was also the language coach (French and Spanish) for the company, and since 2002 has been involved in the Young artists program - coaching, translating subtitles, staging, and making costumes and hats.  In total, she served 27 years as board member of State Opera.

Contents Note

Christine Rothauser began donating her extensive collection of Wagner items to the University of Adelaide Library in March 2015.

This collection is comprised of programmes, photographs, posters and exhibition catalogues collected while attending the Bayreuth Festivals, as well as major Wagner productions in Europe and Australia. Scarcer items include magazines about and review publications issued during Bayreuth.

There is a substantial component of cartoons and caricatures assembled from late 19th and early 20th century French newspapers and magazines, including many scarce and valuable items, as well as 19th and 20th century journal issues with articles about Wagner.

Many fine prints and lithographs feature scenes from productions, including those by major artists Arthur Rackham and Hugo Braune. Design prints include Stephen Curtis and Patrice Cauchetier costume designs for the Adelaide Ring Cycles, and Max Brückner’s stage designs for Bayreuth.

Highlights of Wagner memorabilia include commemorative medals and coins, porcelain Meissen medallions and a miniature of Friedrich Pecht’s Wagner portrait on porcelain.

Records of major performances have been included with this collection, while books about Wagner, opera scores and videos have been catalogued separately as the Christine Rothauser Wagner Collection.

Additional items (Series 11) mainly related to the Adelaide Ring Cycle 1998 from the estate of Rosemary Stimson were donated by the Stimson family in 2019.
