Alastair Sarre was born in Leigh Creek, a coal-mining town in the outback of South Australia. He studied forestry at the Australian National University and worked for a mining company for a couple of years before returning to Canberra to complete a writing diploma. He has also worked as a science editor and freelance writer specialising in forestry. Prohibited Zone, his first novel, was shortlisted for the Adelaide Festival Award for Best Unpublished Manuscript.

Alastair's second novel Ecstasy Lake is a crime thriller set in Adelaide that involves a massive hidden outback gold deposit, the illicit drugs trade and a brutal murder. Find out more about this novel and meet the author at this Friends of the Library event.
