Music is alive & kicking at Radio Adelaide

Friday, 31 August 2007

75 Live Acts, featuring over 300 musicians, are set to perform in Radio Adelaide's LIVE MUSIC FEST 07.

September 10-15 sees local, national and international groups playing live in the Radio Adelaide studios, plus live crosses to other Adelaide venues, delivering 6 days of live music radio. Virtually all musical styles get a look-in, from African dance grooves to local metal beats; indie pop-rock to string quartets.

Live Music Fest Coordinator Kat McGuffie says: "Live Music Fest is an exhilarating celebration of musical diversity from an incredible range of local and touring talent. Listeners will experience everything from Albanian, Celtic, Nunga and Zimbabwean performers to choristers, rappers, accordions by the dozen, hardcore punk and more... all from the one station."

Among the touring musical treats on offer:

  • Oliver 'Tuku' Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe) - live from Thebarton Theatre
  • Natsuko Yoshimoto (Sydney) - compelling violinist, from the Grainger Quartet
  • Tecoma (Alice Springs) - desert alt folk jazz
  • Ned Collette (Melbourne) - brooding singer songwriter
  • Wayne Scott Kermond (Sydney) - Peter Allen Variety Performer of the Year 2006

And just a few of the local crew:

  • Nazarite Vow - 5 piece alt rock/screamo band
  • Highlights from the Elder Conservatoriums production of Cosi Fan Tutte
  • Susie Keynes (Fruit), performing as part of her band Redhead
  • Soursob Bob - political singer songwriter
  • Moonlight String Quartet - up and coming chamber ensemble
  • Kineman Karma - Nunga reggae band
  • Kubrick - Jazz groove outfit
  • Moore Black and the Organic Roots - eclectic mix of Samba, Calypso, Reggae, Dub and Nyabingi.
  • Sukatash - fat beats and old school funk

In all, over 75 live performances, testament to Radio Adelaide's commitment to cutting edge music broadcasting and to exposing a host of exciting local talent. The full LIVE MUSIC FEST program can be found on Radio Adelaide's website
