The University of Adelaide's Singapore campus located at the Ngee Ann-Adelaide Education Centre will be the first stop on an international tour of the Australian String Quartet (ASQ), one of Australia's leading chamber ensembles and Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Adelaide.

The ASQ will perform Haydn's String Quartet in D minor Op 76 No 2 and Debussy's String Quartet in G minor Op 10 at a free concert on Monday 8 September at the Ngee Ann-Adelaide Education Centre.

University of Adelaide Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic) Professor Fred McDougall said the concert would celebrate the University's 10-year education partnership with Ngee Ann Kongsi.

"The University of Adelaide values its close bonds with Singapore," said Professor McDougall. "We are delighted that we could bring the Australian String Quartet to Singapore to celebrate our partnership with Ngee Ann and show our commitment to this campus. We hope this will be the first of many more such opportunities."

University alumni from Singapore, West Malaysia and Sarawak have been invited to the concert which is also open to the general public.

The ASQ was established in 1985 and has been Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Adelaide's Elder Conservatorium of Music since 1991.

The current ASQ membership of Sophie Rowell and Anne Horton on violin, Sally Boud on viola, and Rachel Johnston on cello was established in 2006. This group has won more international chamber music competitions than any other ensemble in Australian history and has performed in many major European cities, including a highly acclaimed tour of Germany last year.

The ASQ's international tour starts in Singapore on 8 September and continues with another seven performances in Switzerland and the UK until 26 September.

The ASQ concert will take place in the Ngee Ann-Adelaide Education Centre, Teochew Auditorium, 97 Tank Road, Singapore at 6.45pm followed by a reception at 8.30pm. For a free ticket, please call + 65 6738 2910 or email julia@naaec.com.sg
