Agri-business patrons support Uni students

The Roseworthy Campus student fund has awarded five University of Adelaide students agricultural scholarships worth close to $30,000 for 2013.

Recipients include Jackson Adams (from Mannum), Hannah Bobrowski (Salisbury North), Felicity Davies (Hahndorf), Emma Goode (Monarto), and Angela Markow (Mile End).

The Chair of the fund's board, Mr Ray Taylor, says: "The fund trustees are delighted to offer this substantial support to students at the Roseworthy Campus, but there's still a lot more we'd like to do. This can only happen through the generosity of individuals and companies who are keen to see the University of Adelaide lead in agricultural education."

The fund's patron is prominent agri-business company director and policy maker Mr John Crosby.

The scholarship winners are:

  • Jackson Adams, Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences, 1st year, Mannum;
  • Hannah Bobrowsk, Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Bioscience), 2nd year, Salisbury North;
  • Felicity Davies, Bachelor of Science (1st year Honours) (Animal Science), Hahndorf;
  • Emma Goode, Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences, 2nd year, Monarto;
  • Angela Markow, Bachelor of Science (Animal Science), 2nd year, Mile End.

The fund was established in 2006 by the Roseworthy Old Collegian's Association. It aims to develop excellence in education, training and research at the campus.

The Roseworthy Campus student fund administers scholarships from its own investments, plus a number on behalf of private and corporate providers. These include S. Kidman and Co, T&R Pastoral, Wanderbiddy Feedlot and the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of SA.

The Executive Dean of the Roseworthy Campus, Professor Iain Reid, says the initiative supports improved student access to the University and increases student numbers in agricultural and animal sciences.

"This support fits very well with the ongoing rejuvenation of the Roseworthy Campus through University, Federal and State Government direct investment of more than $50M over the past 6 years, and with the ongoing development of student facilities on the campus via the student amenities fee," Professor Reid says
