Urbanest and Uni of Adelaide team up to deliver 689 new student beds
Wednesday, 3 August 2016
Australia’s leading provider of purpose-built off-campus student accommodation, Urbanest, today announced new development plans in Adelaide including a new partnership with the University of Adelaide.
The new development will address the need to support the growing international and domestic student sector by delivering an additional 689 purpose-built student beds to the Adelaide market.
"Urbanest is excited about the opportunity to expand our partnership with the University of Adelaide. The University is very focused on bringing the best the world has to offer to students in Adelaide and we feel fortunate to be a part of their plans," said Bub Nickel, CEO of Urbanest. "Our goal is to utilise this unique opportunity to ensure our newest community raises the bar for student accommodation in Australia."
"This partnership with Urbanest provides excellent student accommodation at this most central, convenient and landmark location. This adds to the unique Adelaide experience we strive to provide our students, complementing other accommodation options in the city," said Professor Pascale Quester, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic) at the University of Adelaide.
"Urbanest has a great track record in delivering student accommodation, and worked with us to deliver accommodation to New Zealand students who came to Adelaide to study after the devastating Christchurch earthquakes in 2011," Professor Quester said.
Located on North Terrace, the new student community will be directly opposite the University of Adelaide and is metres from Rundle Mall. The new Urbanest development will feature a diverse product mix, that will maximise affordability by offering multiple price points for students. In addition, the product offering will feature state-of-the-art amenities including a fitness facility, meeting spaces, a mini-theatre, games rooms and a variety of conferencing facilities that will enhance the educational experience of the occupants.
The University of Adelaide currently offers 590 beds of managed accommodation to its student community, including The University of Adelaide Village in Grote Street and Roseworthy Residential College. The partnership with Urbanest will extend the number of rooms available (for the exclusive use) of University of Adelaide students, and the new Urbanest build is expected to match the high standards of quality service and student support already provided in University of Adelaide-managed student accommodation.
Award-winning local Adelaide building firm Built Environs has commenced work onsite, with completion in November 2017, in preparation for the 2018 academic year.
"The securing of the Urbanest project is a significant achievement for our business. It will be great to see Built Environs delivering such a significant and high-profile project in the CBD of Adelaide," said Built Environs Managing Director, Daryl Young.
