How can a 'Blue Economy' drive prosperity in South Australia?

Wednesday, 5 October 2016

A free public lecture at the University of Adelaide next week will showcase how South Australia can create new enterprises that generate multiple benefits for business and society while rejuvenating nature.

Gunter Pauli – a world famous economist, serial entrepreneur, and author of The Blue Economy, which has sold over 1 million copies worldwide in over 30 languages – will speak in Scott Theatre (5.00pm Monday 10 October) on: The 'Blue Economy': Business innovation driving local jobs and economic prosperity in South Australia. The evening will begin with a lecture from Gunter followed by an interview-style conversation.

"Gunter Pauli is a true inspiration. He is a charismatic and engaging speaker with decades of practical experience from around the world in building new enterprises that will be of great value to South Australia," says Dr Charlie Hargroves, Sustainable Development Fellow with the University's Entrepreneurship, Commercialisation and Innovation Centre (ECIC).

"Despite all that we know about the damage our society has done to the environment, generally there's still an element of hesitation about adopting a truly sustainable approach to industry.

"However, Gunter's concept of the Blue Economy provides a tangible and profitable approach for industry to capture many emerging opportunities, with each one proven somewhere in the world. It has the ability to generate creative and innovative solutions that strengthen the local economy and harness local skills, capacity and resources.

"Gunter's message will inspire even the most skeptical," Dr Hargroves says.
