Carols on Campus to celebrate festive season
Friday, 1 December 2017
Members of the community will join the University of Adelaide's staff and students in song at the free annual Carols on Campus next Wednesday, 6 December.
Now in its eighth year, Carols on Campus has become a much-loved public event, helping to close out the academic year and celebrate the festive season.
Historic Bonython Hall will be decked out as a Christmas wonderland for the event.
"Carols on Campus is a great opportunity to showcase the talents of the University's Elder Conservatorium of Music – with voice soloists and choristers, percussionists, and the Bonython Hall organ played by Karl Geiger – but it's also a wonderful opportunity for the University to engage with the wider community," says Associate Professor Carl Crossin, OAM, Head of Voice, Opera, Conducting & Ensembles at the Elder Conservatorium.
"Members of the community will join in song with staff and students from right across the University, helping to make this is a marvelous annual event – one we're all proud to be a part of," he says.
The event will feature many popular Christmas carols and some lesser-known ones, a full academic procession, and readings of Christmas texts and poems by University staff.
"Among our most popular performances at Carols on Campus are those that draw on music from other cultures, and this year's Carols will continue to surprise and excite audiences with something a little bit unexpected," Associate Professor Crossin says.
Those who attend Carols on Campus are encouraged to bring a present to place under the University's Christmas Gifting Tree in Bonython Hall, to be distributed to children in need by The Smith Family.
