Friends of the Library Discovery Event - Rachel Harris - Women’s Work and Education in 1970s and 1980s Adelaide

Rachel Harris

Rachel was awarded PhD from University of Adelaide in 2020 for her thesis “In a State of War: Women’s Experiences of the South Australian Home Front, 1939-1945”

The experiences of “baby-boomer” South Australian women, particularly working-class women and clerical workers, and how far their working lives changed in this period has not previously been closely researched. Rachel’s presentation is based on archival research and supplemented by women’s oral histories. She draws on discoveries from the Women’s Studies Resource Centre materials held in Special Collections and Archives and the Working Women’s Centre Archives held by by the State Library of South Australia.
