In 1665 Robert Hooke initiated the field of microscopy with his book Micrographia. The magnificent copper plate engravings were reissued in 1745 as Micrographia restaurata, one of the Library’s most valuable books. Hooke's work made visible for the first time what was invisible to the naked eye. Restoration of the Library copy was generously sponsored by Dr Jane Lomax-Smith under the Friends of the Library Adopt-a-Book program. Jane will talk about her adopted book which will be on display.
