New leadership for Uni of Adelaide’s international engagement
The University of Adelaide has today announced the appointment of a senior academic leader to drive its international strategy, partnerships and engagement.
Professor Jacqueline Lo has been appointed to the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (International).
Professor Lo will join the University of Adelaide from the Australian National University (ANU), where she is currently Associate Dean, International, in the College of Arts and Social Sciences, and Chair of Academic Board.
Professor Lo has more than 25 years’ experience in higher education, including governance, management and strategic planning.
Having graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Arts in 1989 and a PhD in 1996, Professor Lo began her academic career at the University of Newcastle in 1993 and joined ANU in 1997.
A globally recognised and award-winning scholar of the humanities and pioneer of Asian-Australian studies, her work on multiculturalism, migration and public policy has been influential in Europe, Asia and the USA. Her academic expertise includes intercultural and cross-cultural studies, drama, English, and European studies.
The University of Adelaide’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Pascale Quester, says Professor Lo is joining the University at an exciting time.
“As reflected in the world university rankings, the University of Adelaide’s international reputation is on the rise despite increasing global competition. We have also recently won the 2019 Australian Export Award for International Education and Training, helping to demonstrate our University’s national leadership in this field.
“With a new strategic direction that challenges us to be the truly global university for South Australia, Professor Jacqueline Lo’s depth of experience in internationalisation – as both an academic and administrator – will be highly valued and most welcome,” Professor Quester says.
Professor Lo says: “I am pleased to join the University of Adelaide, a research-intensive member of Australia’s Group of Eight (Go8) universities, with an incredibly proud history and global eminence.
“I am very excited about the new strategic direction the University of Adelaide is taking. I look forward to building on its success, through increased international engagement with students, alumni, industry, and governments, helping to further develop the University’s global community and its standing in the world.”
Professor Lo’s new appointment will start in March 2020.
