The University of Adelaide continues to experience upswings in interest from domestic and international students, amid a shrinking local market and increased competition for higher education.

The University of Adelaide has seen a 7% increase in first preferences and a 7% increase in all preferences for undergraduate programs in 2020.

By today, the University will have made 5% more offers to domestic students for undergraduate study compared with 2019. (6389 offers for 2020, compared with 6074 offers at the same time in 2019.) This includes an 8% increase in offers via SATAC.

Continued strong interest from international students has seen a 16% increase in applications for 2020, furthering the University of Adelaide’s reputation as South Australia’s truly global university.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Rathjen has welcomed the year-on-year growth in both domestic and international students.

“At a local level, is it pleasing to see an ongoing increase in demand for study at our University at a time of a declining school leaver student market overall,” Professor Rathjen says.

“The University of Adelaide is providing greater access to a quality higher education, with a vibrant and engaging campus life that is second to none in the State. This experience will set new generations of young people on a path to leading satisfying, productive lives.”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Pascale Quester says: “We congratulate all of our future students who have worked hard to get to this point – receiving an offer from their university of choice.

“It is exciting to see the level of interest in our new degree programs, including Information Technology and our suite of Technology (Defence Industries) programs, which will directly contribute to the future skills base of the State.

“For students who have not received their first preference, there are other opportunities and pathways available. Our student advisors will be able to talk through your options and provide helpful advice.”
