University of Adelaide announces a new undergraduate entry pathway

The University of Adelaide has launched a new alternative entry pathway for undergraduate admission in 2021 based on Year 11 performance.

The new pathway is designed for current domestic and international Year 12 applicants impacted by the COVID19 pandemic.

Year 11 results will be used as a basis for early release of Offers in September for all University of Adelaide undergraduate degrees, excluding competitive entry degrees and those with additional entry criteria.

Students must complete an Australian Year 12 qualification (SACE, HSC, VCE or IB) and any applicable subjects prerequisites.

“We hope that having this additional entry option will reassure students that, no matter how disrupted their studies are in 2020, they can still pursue their careers with a world-class University of Adelaide education in 2021,"Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Pascale Quester

The alternative entry pathway will be available to all South Australian schools and select regional schools bordering Victoria and New South Wales.

To be eligible, a student must:
-          have studied Year 11 in 2019 and achieved the required grades for the degree they are applying for
-          be enrolled in at least four Year 12 subjects in 2020
-          be enrolled in the appropriate subjects to meet the subject prerequisites
-          list an eligible degree as their first preference on their SATAC application by the 28th of August

Students will be considered for whichever pathway favours them best, similar to the model that already exists for our subject-based entry - if they receive an offer via the Year 11 pathway and then would prefer to be considered for another program on the basis of their Year 12 ATAR at the end of the year, that will be used instead.

University of Adelaide Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Pascale Quester said the new entry pathway was created to relieve pressure for this year’s Year 12s and to provide certainty in addition to existing entry via ATAR and Year 12 subject-based pathways, which still remain in place.

“We’re very aware of just how difficult this year has been, and will remain, for school communities,’’ she said.

“This entry pathway will enable 2020 Year 12 students to apply for entry into the vast majority of our undergraduate degrees based predominantly on their 2019 Year 11 subject results, without compromising entry standards.

“We hope that having this additional entry option will reassure students that, no matter how disrupted their studies are in 2020, they can still pursue their careers with a world-class University of Adelaide education in 2021.”

Applications for the scheme will close on the 28th of August. Offers will be made for these applicants in September 2020.
