Cyber industry leader appointed to University Council

The University of Adelaide’s Council has announced the appointment of a new Council member, a leader in the business and cyber sector.

The University of Adelaide’s Council has announced the appointment of a new Council member, a leader in the business and cyber sector.

Mike Barber has over 25 years’ experience in the ICT sector. He has held senior leadership positions within the Government of South Australia and the private sector including Electronic Data Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Connected Solutions Group and NEC Australia.

He has considerable experience in business transformation, corporate governance, risk management, financial management and strategic planning and a deep understanding of business systems, managed services, cloud computing, cyber security, and biometrics.

Mr Barber is currently CEO of Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre and is also a Director of Transforming Solutions, a boutique consulting and advisory company providing services to Government, business, and Not for Profit organisations in South Australia.

He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds a Bachelor of Business (MIS).

Mr Barber was appointed to the University’s Council following a recommendation from the Council Selection Committee.

The University’s Chancellor, the Hon. Catherine Branson AC QC, said:  “We are grateful to have Mike Barber join us on Council. His experience across Government and the private sector, as well as his deep understanding of business, cyber and finance practices, will be of great benefit to the University and broader community.”

Mr Barber said: “I am excited to be joining the University Council and look forward to contributing to the vision of this iconic world-class education and research institution.

“These challenging times present great opportunities for the University to foster innovation and provide pathways for students to reach their goals.”

Mr Barber has been appointed to Council for a period of 2 years. He will also serve on the Council’s Risk Committee.
