In 2017 we are expanding our training offering to cover the following types of sessions.

Training and support activities being offering to our Researchers are designed to support all levels of competency in the area of High Performance Computing (HPC) including face-to-face training, online training and walk-up support. Register

  • Introduction to High Performance Computing (HPC) Sessions
    In this workshop participants will learn the basic steps to use Phoenix, from login to first job submission. Topics covered include:

      • How to login on Phoenix
      • Fundamental Linux commands to use on Phoenix
      • File transferring to/from Phoenix
      • Understanding and using Modules
      • Preparing and writing scripts to submit
      • Job submission and feedback

    Introduction to High Performance Computing (HPC) Sessions will be run at both our North terrace and Waite Campuses.

  • Get the Answer Faster (Advanced) Sessions
    In this workshop participants will learn about the SLURM scheduler on Phoenix and how to optimise their job scripts to get the best work throughput.Topics covered include:

      • Scheduler basics
      • Job priority, allocations, and reporting tools
      • Optimising memory efficiency and resource requests
      • Improving job I/O and utilising scratch space

  • Online Training via MyUni
    To get started or refresh your HPC skills in the shortest time possible access our online training available in MyUni. All existing Phoenix account holders have access under Other Courses in MyUni. The online training is designed to quickly give you the skills requires to use Phoenix.

    : Look for Phoenix HPC Training in myUni.

    About 30 minutes of your time will be required and the course covers the topics:

      • Access to the Phoenix
      • Basic Linux commands for HPC
      • Transfer files between terminal and the Phoenix
      • Schedule your jobs for execution on Phoenix
      • Preparing and writing scripts to submit
      • Job submission and feedback
    Login and complete via MyUni

    Note: There are no prerequisites and you do not need to have any knowledge of unix .  The online training requires you to request a Phoenix account.

  • Custom Training for Research Groups
    A Customised Phoenix training session to get your research group started we can provide a 1-2 hour hands on session for 5-15 people. 

    This training experience that builds on our general training package adding in customization to address specific needs of a research group, which include examples of your applications or code. 

    This training gives researchers the skills to use the high performance compute services successfully within a matter or hours. Our training differs from traditional HPC training, as it does not aim to transfer knowledge of Linux operating systems, high performance compute infrastructure and networks.
