Professions Academic & Learning Support

Professions Academic & Learning Support (PALS) encompasses all of the academic support offered for Faculty of the Professions undergraduate and postgraduate students.

All services are free of charge to students. To assist you in finding the help you need, Academic Support is categorised within three areas;

  • Core Academic Skills & Knowledge

    The skills and knowledge you are expected to develop and use as a university student.  Examples may include referencing, critical thinking and reading, academic writing styles.

    Writing Centre What: Drop in Service, bookable appointments and resources to assist you with practical advice and strategies to master reading, writing, note-taking, and referencing techniques for success at university

    Professions Communication Skills Guide What: A downloadable guide to assist you with referencing, reading and writing styles specific to Professions programs
    When: Available all year round

  • Course Specific Support

    Support to assist you is developing your understanding of the specific curriculum and course material.

    Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) 
    PASS is an internationally accredited program designed to enable students to understand the key concepts of the study course and achieve their best results.

    What: Weekly student led 50 minute sessions focussing on specific course content and concepts
    When: offered in teaching and SWOT weeks of each semester

    Pass - Peer Assisted Study Sessions

    Studiosity 

    What: Online after hours support focussing on academic writing and discipline specific content
    When: offered in teaching and SWOT weeks of each semester
    More Information: Studiosity is currently only available in selected courses, check your courses MyUni site for details.

  • Program/Discipline Based Skills & Competency

    Discipline wide knowledge, skills or core concepts that underpin your program of study, and are applicable to multiple courses.

    Accounting Drop-In CentreWhat: Drop in Service staffed by postgraduate students focussing on specific questions or the understanding of key concepts in Accounting
    When: 11am – 1pm, Tuesday & Thursday from weeks 3 to 12 of each semester

    Economics Drop-In CentreWhat: Drop in Service staffed by postgraduate students focussing on specific questions or the understanding of key concepts in Economics
    When: 11am – 1pm, Tuesday to Friday from weeks 2 to 12 of each semester
    Where: Professions Student Support Hub Room 1.06

    Finance Drop-In CentreWhat: Drop in Service staffed by postgraduate students focussing on specific questions or the understanding of key concepts in Finance
    When: 12pm – 2pm Wednesday & 3pm - 5pm Thursday from weeks 4 to 12 of each semester

    Maths Learning Centre 
    What: Drop in Service and resources to assist you with the understanding of key concepts in mathematics and statistics
    When: All year round, see website for opening hours
