Dr Morel and team will use the award funding to develop better strategies to treat patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, an advanced disease stage that is currently not curative.

The project will define the ability of a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory compound to increase the anti-cancer efficacy of new forms of radiation treatment targeting tumour cells called radioligands in preclinical models, while also protecting normal tissues.  This work has the potential to increase the number of patients receiving more effective therapy for advanced prostate cancer which could improve the quality and length of their lives.

Dr Morel is one of 28 young clinicians and researchers from across the globe to receive a PCF 2023 Young Investigator Award, sharing in over $6 million (USD) for prostate cancer research.  The PCF created the Young Investigator Awards program to identify future research leaders who will keep the field of prostate cancer research vibrant with new ideas.  For the past 15 years the program has provided career and project support to young postdoctoral fellows committed to advancing the field of prostate cancer research.
