Statement on Iran

It is with sadness that we have witnessed the violent events in Iran over the past week. I extend our deepest sympathies to our Iranian students and staff, and to members of our University community with Iranian backgrounds or who have family and friends in the region.

The University of Adelaide is strongly committed to our values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, as well as our commitment to Freedom of speech. We support the Australian Government’s statement in response to the Iranian protests.

We know that the current situation will be particularly distressing members of our community with strong links to Iran. We have written separately to Iranian staff and students to remind about the support services available and encourage engagement with these services as required.

Support is available to all staff through the University’s confidential EAP, and to all students through Student Counselling

I encourage all members of our University community to be particularly mindful to take care of each other during this difficult time.

With best wishes

Peter
