Acting Executive Dean's message

Professor Jodie Conduit

The Faculty of Arts, Business, Law, and Economics (ABLE) encompasses a broad spectrum of disciplines and plays a leading role in shaping diverse intellectual landscapes.

Our recent contributions to the Adelaide Festival with Floods of Fire exemplify our commitment to showcasing the creativity and narratives of South Australians while addressing pressing issues such as climate change.

Additionally, our upcoming performance of Little Women (Scott Theatre, 18-24 April) by the third-year students of the Elder Conservatorium of Music promises to captivate audiences. With past productions featuring talents like Louisa Vilinne, an alumna who recently had the lead role in the Australian production of the musical Miss Saigon, our stage continues to nurture stars of the future.

The appointment in March of internationally acclaimed opera singer, Teddy Tahu Rhodes will enhance the Conservatorium’s Classical Voice department, enriching our academic offerings and providing invaluable mentorship to our students.

Our recent Memorandum of Understanding with the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Association (NATSIHA) underscores our dedication to addressing housing challenges faced by First Nations people.

With development of the new Adelaide University rapidly taking shape, our staff are deeply entrenched in curriculum development, together with their counterparts at UniSA, and are ensuring that our programs are at the forefront of education and research. This transformative period requires significant time and effort, involving collaboration widely across both universities; on behalf of the Faculty, I extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved.

As we approach mid-semester break and prepare for Semester 1 exams, let us draw inspiration from our upcoming graduation ceremonies, and celebrate the achievements of our students and the collective success of our dedicated staff who guide and support them.
