Deputy Vice-Chancellor's message
Our history and our future are headline news this year and reflected in the core themes of the Autumn issue of Lumen, which is now available online.
This edition celebrates our 150th with some of the many stories of our University’s history, including personal reflections from alumni including David Penberthy, Natasha Stott-Despoja and former Governor Hieu Van Le AC.
Well-known media figure and Distinguished Alumni Keith Conlon helped to curate this edition as guest History Editor, providing his potted history of our University and our State.
We’ve also updated the design of our magazine, a much-loved University of Adelaide publication for more than 50 years, and developed a new-look Lumen website.
This year, we are also celebrating the centenary of the Waite campus with the Waite 100 Gala on Saturday 4 May. You can book your tickets now for this exclusive black-tie affair featuring food by celebrity chef Matt Moran and a very special performance by internationally recognised opera singer Teddy Tahu Rhodes, who was recently appointed to the Elder Conservatorium of Music. We’re also producing a one-off issue of Lumen to celebrate the Waite campus centenary.
Our alumni family continues to grow around the world with over 164,000 people in more than 140 countries, so our 150th celebrations have not only been limited to Adelaide. Recently we’ve also hosted events for alumni in Sydney and Melbourne, and this month in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Next month we will celebrate with our alumni in London at Australia House.
We’ve come a long way in the past 150 years, and we have a lot to celebrate and indeed to look forward to.
Professor Jessica Gallagher
