Deputy Vice-Chancellor's message

The University’s partnership with Illuminate Adelaide will see magical installations on our North Terrace campus as part of our ongoing 150th anniversary celebrations, anchoring our institution again at the heart of Adelaide’s cultural scene.

This year’s program of events, which begin this Friday 5 July, showcases works by local and international artists at some of the city’s iconic locations. On campus, the inside of Bonython Hall will be transformed by Japanese artist Shohei Fujimoto’s mind-bending installation intangible #form.

We look forward to welcoming staff, students and the community to this free exhibition which uses state-of-the-art projections and lasers to create fluid, ever-changing structures that feel both real and intangible, high-tech and magical.

The pop-up Lumen Bar is also back on the Goodman Lawns at the North Terrace campus. This bespoke glass-walled marquee is the ultimate winter retreat and this year is designed as a 1960s-inspired Japanese Jazz Kissa. There will be a lineup of vinyl DJs every night, a Japanese inspired menu, excellent wines from alumni winemakers, and discounts for staff and students.

Staff also have the opportunity to win a double pass to Fire Gardens, in which thousands of handcrafted giant firepots, captivating kinetic sculptures, live music and candlelit arched pathways will bring a firelight transformation to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.

As part of the University's commitment to fostering collaboration and building stronger research networks, applications open today for round 2 of the 2024 Strategic Conference Sponsorship Fund. Staff can apply for up to $20,000 in funding to support events that highlight our research excellence to global audiences.

As we continue our 150th celebrations, I hope you will all make the most of these events and opportunities during July.
