IT Security alert: ClickFix attacks on the rise

ClickFix is a tactic that tries to push you into giving hackers direct access to your device. It targets you through sudden pop-ups that look urgent and technical. The goal is simple: get you to run commands that hand control to an unauthorised party.

You follow the prompt’s steps, and the attacker gains access to your device.

The prompt will normally tell you to:
Step 1: Hold Windows key and press R
Step 2: Press CTRL and V
Step 3: Click OK or Enter

What this does is allow the attacker run a remote access tool in the background, granting access to your device.

Any pop-up that asks you to run key commands without context or claims to fix an issue you didn’t report is a problem. If something feels off, trust that feeling. Stopping for a moment protects your data, your account, and your work.

If you see a ClickFix-style alert, don’t follow the prompts. Close the window and immediately contact the IT Service Desk on +61 8 8302 5000.
