Vice-Chancellor's message
Last Friday, we came together to celebrate all that we have achieved as a part of The University of Adelaide’s significant history. It was a day to collectively reflect on the past, as we prepare to step into the future.
I was delighted to see the great goodwill and enjoyment this farewell event engendered among the more than 2,000 people who came to say goodbye, despite the inclement conditions. We can all be appreciative of the events team members who so ably pivoted to ensure that there were sufficient undercover areas for the celebrations to continue, with exuberance.
It was an historic day. For 151 years, people have worked and studied at this University, and helped it to grow as the world around it grew. People of passion, of intellect, of curiosity have shaped what this University has been. For some of us, those connections are relatively recent; for others, they go back decades.
Each of us can be proud of what has been achieved these past 151 years at The University of Adelaide. Personally, the event was a chance to reflect on my immense privilege to have served as Vice-Chancellor of this fine institution.
As the saying goes, each ending is also a beginning. So it is for us.
The same people who were there to say goodbye to the University of Adelaide will soon be the ones to start something new. I have no doubt that the same commitment, passion, and professionalism which have been hallmarks of our past will be central to our future success of the new Adelaide University.
I thank all of our staff for the cumulative hard work and dedication which has brought us to this historic point. I am incredibly proud of what we have all achieved, together, and am confident that we are poised for success at an even greater scale.
