Professor Sean D. Connell
Sean works to conserve marine life and repair coastal ecosystems by working with decision-makers in government. His work to provide environmental solutions involves decision-making processes that affects stakeholders with conflicting viewpoints – the implementation of which is ultimately political.
A notable success of his work has been the instigation of oyster reef restoration in South Australian, which is now a national activity. One of his persistent challenges has been to help form policy on how to protect marine life using marine parks. His work seeks to benefit people’s health and wellbeing. At the centre of his daily toil is his constant need to grapple with natural complexity and social complexity for which decisions to changes their behaviours leads to outcomes of varying certainty and uncertainty.
