Pre-hearing Review

Rather than being sent straight to a student grievance and appeals committee, your appeal may be dealt with through a pre-hearing review.

A pre-gearing review occurs at the request of the respondent and they are a required to submit a statement setting out their position on your appeal. You will be provided with a copy of this statement and have 5 to 10 business days to respond, if you have anything further to add.

The Executive Director of the Division of Academic and Student Engagement will examine or nominate a student grievance and conduct advisor to investigate the matter and consider both your appeal and the statement of the respondent before making a recommendation to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President (Academic).

The Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President (Academic) will determine that your appeal:

  • has merit and must proceed to a student grievance and appeal committee hearing in accordance with the stage 3 process, or
  • is lacking substance and will not proceed. If your appeal lacks merit it will be terminated and you will receive written confirmation of this.
