Support Services

Even though you might feel uncomfortable or embarrassed about seeking help for a sexually transmitted infection (STI), or discussing your sexual health in general, it's far better to seek help early if you think you might have a problem.

Each of the organisations listed below will be able to help you if you have concerns about your sexual health, as will your doctor.

  • SHine SA

SHine SA is the leading sexual health agency in South Australia. SHine SA's four clinics in Adelaide offer services like contraception (including Emergency Contraception), STI testing, pregnancy testing, and counselling for relationships and sexual health matters. These services are free for people under the age of 25 who have a Medicare card. If you have an OSHC card, you'll need to pay the cost up-front and claim it back from your private health insurance. To book an appointment, call 1300 794 584.

If you can't visit one of SHine SA's local clinics, or if you feel more comfortable talking over the phone than face-to-face, there is a confidential phone service available. If you need an interpreter, one can be arranged free of charge.

    Telephone: 1300 883 793
    Monday-Friday, 9am-1pm

If you prefer to use email, SHineSA's sexual health nurses will respond to your questions at sexualhealthhotline@health.sa.gov.au.

As an International student, you can make an appointment with a SHine SA doctor, but you'll need to pay for any pathology tests, medication or contraception. You can claim this on your Overseas Student Health Cover.
