Let's get artsy!

I’ve always had a love for creativity and art, but I often feel swamped with other responsibilities and uni work! Holidays are the perfect time to get back in touch with art – whether that’s sketching in a café, painting with acrylics or attending a social art class!

You don’t have to be amazing at art to paint or draw – just as long as you’re having fun and feel creative. Below are my recommendations of art themed activities to undertake by yourself or with friends!

1. Van Gogh Alive the Experience

This multi-sensory tribute to Van Gogh is here to stay until 1 August! An art exhibition is a fun way to appreciate art and inspire creativity.

2. Vintage Van Gogh

Located on Goodwood road, come along to paint and sip! Perfect for a date night or fun with friends! Sessions are available here.

3. Experiment with a new medium/style

Acrylic, oil, watercolour, gouache, ink, crayon, chalk or pastels! The options are endless – gather some friends and experiment with a new style of art. Perhaps you can draw/paint the same object in different styles – cubism, line art, expressionism, realism or abstract!

4. Art game (thanks TikTok)

I was sent a video from a friend of a new art trend - with a friend, you spend 5 minutes painting anything then every 5 minutes you switch and see what the final product turns out to be!

Art and creativity are subjective experiences— I believe one of humanity’s greatest ability is to make art or appreciate art. It’s a unique experience and enhanced when there is no expectation – have fun with it!

My goal for this break is to make and appreciate more art. Painting is a wonderful hobby to engage with. I love putting a podcast or movie on while I paint too! To be able to translate a vision in your mind onto a canvas is very special and a rewarding process.

Try out something new this break – get in touch with your creative side!
