25 years of Blues Clues

At 10 pm Wednesday night, I was doing my nightly social media scrolling and came across a very familiar face on Instagram.

This face was wearing a white hat with an embroidered pencil on it, a green stripe shirt, and glasses (which was not so familiar). This face belonged to Steve Burns, the original host and best friend of Blue in Blues Clues. He stood in front of that same, weird, cartoony, orange and pink stripe background and he said, "Hi, got a second?" He paused to wait for our reply and then went on to remind us about that time when we were younger and how we used to hang out with Blue and run around and find clues and talk to all the characters on the show, then freak out about the mail and have so much fun until he had to leave us with his brother Joe and go off to college (*desperate crying face emoji*). In this video, Steve wanted to talk about the fact that he left, and I said "okay fine but I WILL cry!"

He went on to describe how challenging but rewarding it was being at college, and how now at 47 years old, he has been able to do all the things he's wanted to do.  Basically, this video was like some sort of closure between us that I never even knew I needed, especially when he told me how well I'm doing and how far we have all come even though it's been hard for a lot of us.

Celebrating 25 years of Blues Clues, the three hosts Steve, Joe, and Josh (third and current host of Blues Clues) all caught up on Nickelodeon Jr., and talked about their time on the hit kids show. I am a horridly nostalgic person and get very emotional about these kinds of things mostly because it was a much easier time. I had no responsibilities and no worries and I just hung out on my Blues Clues fold-out couch bed but now I have to be an adult for the rest of my life. I've been having a tough time lately, and I know I'm not the only one but this video popping up has reminded me that everything is going to be okay. That's what we all need sometimes when we're at our wits end - a little sign.

I want to say thank you to Steve and Joe for being a part of my learning growing up, and to Josh for teaching the new generations. They have taught us communication, the power of listening and using our brains to figure things out. These are all skills we still use today. Steve, thank you for that video. Yesterday you became an official member of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. You now stand beside Bob Ross, Steve Irwin, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Stan Lee, and many more who have taught us about love, imagination science, knowledge, creativity, nature, friendship, discovery and more. Thank you for being a part of my childhood...and Joe too.

Go watch the video if you haven't seen it!

Also, watch the video when Steve goes off to college. You will cry :)
