Cyber Awareness Month - Simple, strong, protected? Easy.

This week, we’re highlighting how strong passphrases and smart password habits can protect your accounts. Simple or reused passwords remain one of the easiest ways for attackers to gain access to your information.

You can create a passphrase by combining meaningful words, numbers, or symbols that are easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess. For example: 1ne-Crafty-Little-Red-Fox. This creates a login that’s both memorable and highly secure.

Actions you can take:

  • Create unique passphrases for each account, don’t reuse them.

  • Use a password manager to securely store and organise your credentials.

  • Keep your passphrases private, never share or write them in unsafe places.

Adopting passphrases, and managing them properly, makes it harder for cybercriminals to access your valuable data, strengthening security for both you and the university.
