Cyber Awareness Month - Enable. Confirm. Protect.
This week, we are highlighting Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). You may be familiar with MFA on your university account, but it can also keep your personal accounts secure. Passphrases and passwords alone are often not enough as attackers can steal them to gain access to your information.
MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring something more than just your passphrase or passwords. This could be a one-time code, a fingerprint scan, or a security key.
Actions you can take:
-
Enable MFA wherever it’s available, especially on your most important accounts.
-
Prioritise services that offer MFA options.
-
Avoid SMS for authentication, instead, use an authenticator app.
Make it harder for cybercriminals to break in, adopt MFA and strengthen security for both you and the university.
