Internships & Volunteer Opportunities
University Collections support and encourage everyone to participate in the art and cultural activities of the university.
Internship opportunities are available to students of the Graduate Program in Art History and Curatorial & Museum Studies at the University of Adelaide and to other students studying in collections related disciplines.
The University Collections Volunteer Group has been established to assist in further developing all aspects of the collections. It allows for interested volunteers to work on University Collections projects and gain experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Collection management
- Tour guiding
- Event support
Volunteers report to the Volunteer Coordinator, University Collections during the Tuesday volunteer sessions or to designated University Collections staff members for other projects. It is the volunteers' responsibility to determine how much time they will give to University Collections.
By volunteering you will develop museum and gallery skills in collection management, while supporting projects and belonging to a like-minded group.
Our volunteers are expected to have an interest in art and heritage collections work or a willingness to learn, and the ability to:
- learn cataloguing techniques in accordance with University Collections standards
- handle the University's material with care and in accordance with University Collections standards
- demonstrate attention to detail
- maintain confidentiality of any sensitive material
- Computer skills in MS Word, Excel and Access would be an advantage for Collection Management tasks.
Induction and on-going training and support will be provided by the University Collections unit.
