Biography/ Background

 

BACKGROUND

Dr Wu is the Director of TCU-UA (Tianjin Chengjian University-the University of Adelaide) Joint Research Centre on Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. He is also currently the Chair of the Australian Chapter of the International Association of Protective Structures (http://iapsaustralia.org/). Since Dr Wu obtained his PhD from School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technical University, Singapore in 2002, he has developed recognized and diverse research on blast-induced ground vibrations, structural response to blast loading, mitigation of blast effects on structures, blast resistance of ultra-high performance concrete, rock blasting and traffic barrier response to vehicle impact etc.

After joining the University of Adelaide in 2005, Dr Wu has played a key role in building and leading the research area focussed on the analysis and design of structures under blast loading, particularly on blast resistance of ultra-high performance concrete. So far Dr Wu has attracted more than 2 million dollars research funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC), the Defence Science and Technology Organization (DSTO) Australia and other organizations. Currently Dr Wu is holding two ARC Discovery Grants (DP130100181 with Prof. Xiao-Ling Zhao et al. on "Composite tubular construction subject to impact and blast loading" from 2013 to 2015 A$360k and DP140103025 with Phillip Visintin on "A new generic approach for assessing blast effects on reinforced concrete members" from 2014 to 2016 A$370k) and one ARC LIEF Grant (LE130100133 with Prof. Brian Uy et al. on "National Facility for Physical Blast Simulation" in 2013 A$400k)

Dr Wu has served on a number of international conference committees and chairmanship, undertaken guest editorships. So far, he is the editors of one conference proceeding, one ASCE special issue, author or co-authors of more than 140 referred international journal papers and conference papers in blast and impact areas. Dr Wu is also an editorial board member of International Journal of Protective Structures and ASCE Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities.

Dr Wu is currently looking for bright and hardworking postgraduates, and high profile research associates. A number of scholarships are available and applications from current Honours and coursework Masters students are particularly encouraged.
