Biography/ Background

Ms Emily Thwaites-Tregilgas is a Research Assistant and Events Coordinator with the Centre for Housing, Urban and Regional Planning at The University of Adelaide. She has a Bachelor of International Studies with a Major in Politics from The University of Adelaide.

While studying Emily undertook research into Asia-Pacific and Mediterranean immigration policy and migrant smuggling under the auspices of the Australian Institute of International Affairs and worked in the office of Senator Hanson-Young, Australian Greens Senator for South Australia.

Ms Thwaites-Tregilgas is currently assisting a number of CHURP projects including; Instability in the Housing Circumstance of Newly Arrived Humanitarian Entrants, Pathways of Older Persons into Emergency Departments and an evaluation of South Australian Homelessness Reforms.

In addition to her work with CHURP Emily volunteers at the Australian Refugee Association as a teacher and mentor to children with Refugee backgrounds. She is also involved in a number of other organisations on a voluntary basis including the Australian Crime Prevention Council and the Standing Committee of Male Parliamentarians on Prevention of Violence and Discrimination against Women and Girls in the Asia-Pacific.

Emily's areas of academic interests include immigration, social inclusion, and social policy.
