Biography/ Background

Nerissa Haby is a PhD student in the Research Institute for Climate Change and Sustainability working on climate change impacts on small mammals. She is supervised by Professor Barry Brook and Dr Jeff Foulkes (Department for Environment and Natural Resources) and based in the Global Ecology Lab.

Prior to her the PhD, Nerissa had been working as a terrestrial ecologist, focussed primarily on biological survey, threatened species programs, small mammal resource requirements and conservation assessments, such as:

·         The status, distribution and habitat requirements of an isolated desert mouse population (southern Flinders Ranges).

·         Effectiveness of techniques to used to detect southern brown bandicoots (Adelaide Hills)

·         Distribution and extent of pygmy bluetongue lizard populations and availability of habitat (Mid North)

·         Status of re-introduced brush-tailed bettong and plains mouse populations (River Murray floodplain)

·         Assisting Biological Surveys of South Australia

·         Desktop assessment of the conservation values and threatening processes along the coast of the Northern and Yorke NRM and Aliyntjara Wilurara NRM

·         Desktop assessment of the conservation value of potential new land purchases for the SA reserve system

·         Draft interim recovery plan, communication strategy and education material for the southern brown bandicoot

·         Hair and scat analyses

Qualifications

·         Research PhD candidate (ecological modeling), University of Adelaide, supervised by B. W. Brook (University of Adelaide) and Jeff Foulkes (Department for Environment and Natural Resources). 2008 - current.

·         Honours thesis on ‘Microhabitat use by the southern brown bandicoot, Isoodon obesulus obesulus, in Cox Scrub Conservation Park, University of Adelaide, supervised by S. Carthew. 2000.

·         Bachelor of Environmental Science with a double major in ecology and conservation and biology. 2000.
