Dr Nishani Singh

Biography/ Background
Nishani draws on extensive experience in Education at tertiary level in South Africa, Austria, Korea and China, engaging with students from varying educational, language and cultural backgrounds. She joined the Faculty of Professions in January 2006, applying her knowledge and skills in providing academic support to English as Additional Language (EAL) students. She works across all Schools in the development of curricula for delivery of appropriate programs and courses.Within the School of Commerce she developed and taught the Business Communications course incorporating Business Ethics. The course is a credited unit, within the Master of Commerce Program for English as Additional Language (EAL) students.

Teaching Interests
Nishani has designed and is a teacher of Business Communications.She has also designed and coordinated the academic orientation and bridging programs for postgraduate EAL, students within the Faculty of Professions, in the Schools of Commerce, Economics, Adelaide Graduate School of Business, Law and Education.

Research Interests
Nishani's research interests involve language and communication, in particular, intercultural communication.Her research interests also focus on identifying barriers to learning for English as Additional Language and Indigenous students at university and evaluating learning support within universities.
In addition she has a keen interest in course assessment, in particular aligning learning outcomes to course assessment and graduate attributes.

Community Engagement
Nishani has established strong links to business and industry in the past year. She initiated and implemented an Industry Engagement Program, involving leaders from business and industry as guest lecturers in the Business Communications course. This is intended to provide EAL students with a foundation in the communication and employability skills they require to transit to the workplace.
