Biography/ Background
Sarah received her Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Chemistry from the University of Otago in 2016. In her final year she completed a semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh.
Sarah then undertook a summer internship with the NZ Plant and Food research unit based out of the University of Otago with Prof Nigel Perry. She then went on to complete honours in Organic Chemistry in 2017 under the supervision of Dr Bill Hawkins. Her work was focused on expanding synthetic methodologies which utilise a reactive cyclopropane intermediate in preparation of xanthone scaffolds. See publication for more details. Following honours, She took up a research assistant position with Dr Eng Tan where they developed nanoparticles for enhanced drug delivery in collaboration with the neuroanatomy unit at Otago.
She is now completing research toward her PhD with Assoc. Professor Jonathan George at the University of Adelaide. The research involves synthesising natural products in a biomimetic route. -
