Dr Scott Smid
Biography/ Background
Scott is a pharmacology major awarded his BSc (Hons) in 1990 and PhD in 1995 from The University of Adelaide, investigating the role of the renin-angiotensin system in hypertension development. He then undertook postdoctoral research in a commercial drug discovery project in the gastroenterology field for several years, before taking up an academic position in Central Queensland and an assistant professorship at Bond University. In subsequently taking up a senior lectureship in The Discipline of Pharmacology at The University of Adelaide, Scott has been actively investigating the effects and interaction of endogenous cannabinoid and prostanoid pathways in the expression of inflammatory bowel disease, particularly their influence on immune function in colitis. He has also developed collaborative projects investigating the influence of cannabinoid ligands on aspects of drug dependence and the role of cannabinoids and bioactives on neuroprotection.
