Bachelor of Science (EcoChemistry)
B.Sc(EcoC)

| Location: | North Terrace Campus |
| Duration: | 3 years
(full-time or
part-time |
| Degree/Award: | Bachelor |
This program trains students in how to address environmental issues such as the greenhouse effect, ozone layer depletion, the use of pesticides and air, water and soil pollution using core training in chemistry. Students are introduced to emerging areas including ‘green’ (environmentally benign) chemistry and the environmental implications of traditional and modern chemical industries.
First year involves core studies in chemistry, biology and earth sciences. Second year has a strong focus on chemistry, including specialist studies in environmental, biological and analytical chemistry, but students also supplement their studies with optional courses in related environmental or ecological areas. Field-based collection and measurement is a popular feature of second year. In third year, students focus on advanced topics that examine the relationship between chemistry and the environment. In particular, students develop expertise in chemical synthesis and gain an understanding of the physical and chemical properties of compounds of contemporary environmental significance. Students also undertake investigative and research activities into contemporary eco-chemical problems.
