Claire Corani Memorial Lecture

Professor Tanya Monro, Director of the DSTO Centre of Expertise in Photonics in the School of Chemistry & Physics, University of Adelaide, will give a free public lecture on "New ways of molding the flow of light with optical fibres".

The lecture is part of the 2007 AIP Women-in-Physics lecture tour and will be held in Union Hall at the University of Adelaide at 7.30pm on Wednesday 12 December.

The Claire Corani awards will also be presented.

Students run guitar "marathon"

The second of this year's Guitarissimo concert series, which highlights the talents of students from the Elder Conservatorium of Music, will feature a "Concerto Marathon".

The concert includes guitar concertos by Rodrigo (Concierto de Aranjuez), Tedesco and Brouwer, and other works.

Talented guitarists Jody Fisher, Ben Brakenridge and Andrey Lebedev will take centre stage, along with up-and-coming pianists Ann Lee and Marianna Grynchuk, and acclaimed pianist Benjamin Martin.

Guitarissimo will be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 11 December, at Pilgrim Church, 12 Flinders Street, Adelaide.

Annual meeting of the University community

Section 18 of the University of Adelaide Act 1971 requires the University Council to convene a meeting of the University community within two months of the commencement of each financial year. (The University's financial year commences on 1 January.)

The next meeting of the University community will be held from 12.00pm-1.00pm on Monday 18 February 2008 in Bonython Hall.

The Vice-Chancellor and President will preside at the meeting.

"University community" means the Council, members of the academic staff, members of the general (professional) staff, graduates and students.
