Great month of music

 Music

Australia's top musicians will feature in a month of great concerts for the University of Adelaide's Elder Conservatorium.

The ever popular Friday series, Lunchtimes at ELDER HALL, presents the internationally renowned Australian String Quartet on Friday 3 September, performing one of Schubert's most famous and expressive quartets, Death and the Maiden.

The following week, Alexander Tsiboulski, Australia's latest guitar sensation, will be joined by Jacob Cordover for a stunning guitar duo concert.

Another of Australia's rising stars is soprano Greta Bradman. Her career is shining brightly, having recently been a semi-finalist in the prestigious Mietta Song Recital Awards and with the release of her new CD, Forest of Dreams. She will be joined on 17 September by the Langbein Quartet, made up of members from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, in a concert of great beauty and emotional intensity.

The Elder Conservatorium welcomes back cellist Nicholas Bochner on 24 September. Now Associate Principal Cello with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Bochner will be joined by highly regarded Queensland pianist Carson Dron. Along with Beethoven's popular 3rd sonata for Cello and Piano they will perform Elena Kats-Chernin's Wisdom Circles. This was especially commissioned as a 70th birthday present for Nick's father, who was Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Adelaide for 25 years and who is actively working as an Emeritus Professor at the University today.

The Elder Conservatorium of Music's Evening Series continues with a concert of choral beauty from the lofty spaces of St Peter's Cathedral on 11 September.

One of Australia's most respected and experienced choral conductors, Carl Crossin, composer, educator and Director of the Elder Conservatorium of Music, will direct the massed voices of the Three Choirs and the Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra in a program that includes Vivaldi's baroque masterpiece, Gloria.
