Entry Criteria

To be selected for this program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have a high level of competence in spoken and written English (a minimum overall Academic IELTS 7.5 , TOEFL iBT 102, or English Language Proficiency equivalent*);
  • be at least 20 years old (18 & 19 year olds may be accepted at the university's discretion);
  • have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into university education;
  • have met the requirements of the pre-interview task and interview.

*The ELC considers a PTE Academic 79, CAE 194 and high CEFR C1 grade to be equivalent to Academic IELTS 7.5 and TOEFL iBT 102.  Other assessments of English Language Proficiency will be considered at the English Language Centre’s discretion.

To participate in the Cambridge CELTA Course, you will need:

Note: Moodle 4.1 does not support Internet Explorer 11.

Mobile phones and tablets

The course is designed to work on many tablets, however, it will not display correctly on devices with small screens, such as smart phones.

 

Hardware

Set your display to a resolution of 1024x768 with 32-bit colour depth.

You need to have a sound card installed in your computer and either speakers or headphones.

Internet connection and network requirements

Your computer must be connected to the internet.

Minimum internet speed: 3Mbps download and 512Kbps upload speed per user.

Firewall: Must allow delivery of content from multiple IP addresses.

Additional software

For some features in the courses, such as PDFs and videos, you will need additional software, which is likely already installed on your computer. If not, you can download these products free of charge.

How to apply

  • Step 1 - Check your eligibility

    To be selected for this program, your must meet specific entry requirements. Please ensure that you have read and understood these requirements before application.

  • Step 2 - Complete the application form

    To complete the application form may take some time. To prepare for this, please ensure that you have the following ready BEFORE you start this application form:

    1. Complete the application task document ready to be uploaded to the online application form.
    2. Prepare any English Language Proficiency Test results (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL) ready to upload (less than 5MB) - if available.
    3. Prepare any certified copies of relevant academic transcripts and other supporting documentation of qualifications ready to upload (less than 5MB) - if available.
    4. Prepare a copy of photographic identification such as a passport or driver's license ready to upload. (This identification will need to be sighted at day of course commencement.)
    5. Complete the online application form and submit online.

    This is a secure form that must be completed in one session. You cannot save and return to this form. Once you have submitted it, you will receive a copy of the information by email.

    ELC recommends that applications be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the program, as places in these courses fill up fast. However, subject to availability, applications after the deadline will be considered.

    Please note that numbers are strictly limited and places may be filled before the application deadline. Therefore, ELC recommends submitting your application at the earliest opportunity.

    Once a program is filled, applications will still be processed for consideration in the event that a place becomes available, or for future programs.

  • Step 3 - Interview

    After we receive your application, it will be assessed to ensure that it meets the pre-entry requirements for the program. For successful applicants, the ELC Program Administrator (CELTA) will contact you via email to arrange an interview, as the next step in the application process. Please note that alternative interview arrangements can be made for overseas applicants. Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified in writing.

  • Step 4 - Letter of offer

    Following a successful interview, applicants will receive an official Letter of Offer including the Student Information Overview, a Candidate Agreement Form and the payment link. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified in writing.

  • Step 5 - Accept offer and forward payment

    • Check that all your personal details and program details are correct on your letter of offer.
    • Ensure that you have read all of the information in the Student Information Overview carefully.
    • Sign the bottom of the letter of offer.
    • Sign the Candidate Agreement Form.
    • Return the Offer letter and Candidate Agreement Form via email to elc@adelaide.edu.au, or post, and ensure the full payment is made within 2 weeks from the date on the Offer letter. In the case where the Offer letter is distributed less than two weeks prior to start date of the program, these steps must be complete prior to commencement.

    Your enrolment cannot be confirmed until this process is completed.

    Students must submit the full program payment and required documentation before this deadline, otherwise the offer will lapse.

    Payment can be made via credit or debit card.

    A tax invoice will be made available on payment.

    • Please consult with a tax professional or refer to the latest guidelines from the ATO to determine if your education expenses are eligible for tax deductions.
