Adelaide Research & Scholarship

Make your research more visible by depositing your work for Open Access in Adelaide Research & Scholarship (AR&S).

AR&S is the University of Adelaide’s digital repository. It provides a platform for the University community’s research outputs, access to digital collections and records, and a pathway to fulfilling research grant funding and Open Access requirements.

  • Why should I deposit my research outputs in AR&S?

All academic staff and higher-degree by research students are encouraged to deposit suitable research outputs in AR&S. Depositing your research outputs to AR&S makes your work discoverable and accessible, and contributes to the visibility of the University’s research.

Depositing to AR&S ensures compliance with the University’s Open Access Policy.

For researchers, making research available through AR&S can satisfy open access policies for the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Australian Research Council (ARC). Research Services provides further information about research funders’ requirements.

AR&S is also a way to grow your research profile to increase the reach and impact of your work. You can make full-text versions of your work available online and link to them from your researcher profile.

  • What should I deposit in AR&S?

You can deposit the following types of content in AR&S:

    • Journal articles
    • Book chapters
    • Books
    • Conference papers
    • Reports
    • Creative work
    • Higher Degree by Research Theses.

Your decisions about what to deposit will be shaped by the University’s OA Policy, but also influenced by the conditions of your grant funding.

You should deposit the version closest to the published version which can legally be made available. This is usually the author’s accepted manuscript. However, if your work is a gold open access publication or the publication agreement allows the final published version to be made available then you can deposit that version. See the Open Access policy FAQs for more details.

Please contact the Copyright and Open Access Coordinator for advice.

  • How do I submit my work?

Submit your work to AR&S through Aurora.

The Aurora support pages include useful information such as a quick start guide to help you create your profile and submit your work easier and faster.

Note: If submitting research funded by NHMRC or ARC grants, please include details of your grant funding in your Aurora submission record, including your grant number.

  • How do I deposit my thesis?

PhD and Masters by Research theses are added to Adelaide Research & Scholarship as part of the final thesis lodgement process and do not need to be deposited via Aurora.

Higher degree research theses must be made available Open Access in AR&S under the University’s Open Access Policy, unless embargo arrangements have been made to restrict access for a period of time.

Please refer to the Research Student Handbook on the Adelaide Graduate Centre website for further information regarding this.

  • What can I find in AR&S?

Where they have been deposited in AR&S, you can find the University’s research outputs there, including theses by University HDR students. Items in AR&S are also harvested to and discoverable through Library Search, Google, Trove, and online databases.
