Progress in Radar Research 2025

The 2025 Workshop on Progress in Radar Research (PIRR 2025) is an opportunity for radar researchers to share their current research and interact with their research peer group. The workshop is proudly supported by IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society.

This workshop will be held on Thursday 13 – Friday 14 November 2025, at the University of Adelaide, North Terrace, Adelaide.

About PIRR

The PIRR series of workshops is designed to engage the community and provide a venue for researchers to present their work in radar and allied fields. It complements the International Radar Conferences that run in the “3” and “8” years. Past workshops have attracted over 100 registrants. PIRR 2025 will follow a similar format to that of previous PIRR workshops, with 2 days of presentations and discussion.

The use of the term Progress in the workshop title indicates that the series invites a stocktake on current, not necessarily completed, research and is not only a forum for reports of completed work.  It also provides an opportunity for peer exposure and tuning of formal papers intended for subsequent presentation at a conference or for journal publication.  The event will be held on the North Terrace campus of the University of Adelaide.

Topics of interest

PIRR 2025 topics include research into any area of radar, tracking or related areas of science or technology.  Consistent with the intent of the workshop series, PIRR 2025 welcomes proposals for presentations in areas outside radar which bear on issues faced by radar researchers. This year a special session on HF radar will be held on the second day.

Student Travel Scholarships

Travel scholarships* of $1000 are available to students to participate in PIRR 2025. To qualify for the scholarship, the recipient must be currently enrolled as a research student at an Australian University and have an accepted abstract to the workshop. The scholarships are competitive in nature, with their award determined by the technical committee.

*The number of scholarships will depend on amount of workshop sponsorship.

Call for Abstracts

Offers of presentations should be made by submitting, by the due date, a one-page abstract by email to PIRR2025@adelaide.edu.au. The call for abstracts flyer is here (pdf).

Selection will be made by the workshop technical program committee on the basis of the submitted abstract and no formal written paper is required.  No workshop proceedings will be produced but authors are encouraged (but not required) to make their presentation or other material available to attendees after the workshop via a website.
